v1.140: Raiding expeditions, market gear stall, and legendary artifacts
August 17, 2026 · Fallowborn devlog
Versions 1.138.4 through 1.140.1 add peacetime raiding expeditions for eligible cultures and faiths, market gear stalls for buying and selling equipment in towns and cities, eleven legendary and sacred artifacts with rumor quests, and faster seasonal fast-forward processing.
Peacetime raiding expeditions
Rulers and warlords of eligible cultures (such as Norse, Magyar, Bedouin, Berber, or Mongol) and pagan faiths can now launch raiding expeditions from the Deeds tab without declaring war.
Target selection evaluates reachable foreign counties based on border adjacency, cavalry mobility, and naval innovations like Longships. You can choose between two expedition strategies:
- Deep Sack: Assaults settlements and shrines for maximum plunder and captives, but risks defender resistance and casualties against fortified holdings.
- Swift Skirmish: Fast reaving across open pastures and countryside with minimal casualty risk.
Raids can be launched from the target list or selected directly on the map. Successful raids inflict market shortages and demographic loss on the target county while bringing home gold, prestige, provisions, and thralls.
Market gear stalls in towns and cities
Visiting a town or city now gives you access to a local gear stall. Stalls offer a rotating seasonal selection of weapons, armor, shields, and jewelry.
The quality and variety of goods improve as your realm unlocks market technologies like Guild Charters and Bills of Exchange. The interface splits buying and selling side by side on wide screens, with a Buy/Sell toggle on mobile devices:
- For sale: Purchase weapons, armor, and accessories within your current purse.
- Sell from the armory: Sell unpledged and unequipped gear from your family armory to free up coin.
Legendary and sacred artifacts
Eleven historical and legendary relics can now appear across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. Characters matching the required faith, culture, or region can discover rumors of lost treasures.
Pursuing a rumor leads to a perilous trial. You can attempt to secure the artifact through gold offerings, feats of arms, or displays of piety. Each artifact exists only once per world:
- Martial relics: Legendary weapons like Excalibur, Durendal, Tyrfing, and Zulfiqar provide major combat and martial bonuses, with drawbacks like health drain or drawn feuds.
- Sacred treasures: Relics like the Holy Lance, Fragment of the True Cross, Mjölnir Amulet, and Book of Kells provide piety and realm prestige.
Holding a legendary artifact attracts covetous neighboring rulers, who may demand it or send envoys to reclaim it.
Other changes
- Marriage station checks: AI rulers now respect social hierarchy when proposing marriages, preventing royal proposals to distant commoners.
- Fast-forward acceleration: Skipping days now caches seasonal finance and papal records, keeping fast-forward smooth and responsive.
- Raiding toolbar: Standardized filter toolbar with search inputs, clear buttons, and strategy selectors for expeditions.
- Interface polish: Responsive tab handling for market stalls and raid target lists across mobile viewports.
