v1.14 — Wars now march on the map

July 22, 2026 · Fallowborn devlog

Day two. Yesterday the game went up. Today it grew an army.

Until now a war in Fallowborn happened in a menu — you clicked, a number moved, a county changed color. That's over.

Wars take the field

When realms go to war they raise hosts now: columns of spearmen that stand on the map and march province to province. Two hostile hosts in the same province fight there, in the open, where you can watch it. Muster your own host (the 🚩 deed, or answer the muster event), hire companies to swell its ranks, then tap the host and tap a province to send it marching.

Fallowborn v1.14 gameplay: a host of 755 men stands on the map at Rennes, with the prompt to tap a province to march
A host in the field: 755 men at Rennes. Tap a province to march.

The old shortcuts bent to fit. A siege now needs your host actually standing in the county you mean to take — an enemy you keep off your land can't conjure a conquest out of the war screen anymore. And the war council's pitched battle is only for an enemy with no army in the field; if they've got a host, you beat it the honest way and hunt it down.

Watch the world without you — 👁 Observe mode

New Game now offers a start with no character, no events, no choices. You pick it and the centuries just run: realms rise, war, fall, and redraw the map while you read the chronicle of every war, battle, succession, and conquest across the whole map — not only the ones near home. It's the world you seeded, playing itself. Find out what 867 becomes when nobody's steering.

Renounce your betters — ⚑ Declare independence

A new deed lets any sworn lord or baron sitting on 200+ prestige tear up his oath and fight under his own banner. It puts you on a war footing and calls the muster, same as a lord defending his own dirt. (It also quietly rescued the barons who used to get stranded as "independent" with nowhere to climb when their liege's house died out.)

And so the map reads at a glance

That's v1.10 through v1.14, shipped over one evening. The barley is still real. Now it can be trampled.
